Harlan emphasizes understanding and customizing the index structure of the liabilities in order to match its performance.  He believes that one can achieve more return than the target objective index with the same risk, or alternatively achieve equal index return with less credit and market risk, via proper measurement of the customized liability index.   

Harlan’s extensive experience in the fixed income arena includes work at Lehman Brothers, Kuhn Loeb in the years when Bond Market Analysis was emerging as a science, and Morgan Stanley under the tutelage of John Mack.  Harlan capped his career with a 27-year stint at Lazard as Head of the Corporate Bond Department
